Chicago Rollover Accident Injures Five

Car rolled over on bank after accident

A crash in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago resulted in injuries to five people, including a young child. The injured child was in a car that rolled over in the collision. You can learn about the accident and about rollover crashes below. Contact an experienced Chicago auto crash attorney if you’ve been the victim of a rollover accident.

Stop Sign Ignored in Rogers Park

The recent crash occurred on the morning of Monday, May 13 on North Ridge Avenue in Rogers Park. Emergency personnel were called to the scene of a crash where one vehicle had been rolled over by the force of the impact. Witnesses reported that the at-fault driver had failed to stop at a stop sign, then collided with the other vehicle. The vehicle that rolled over contained three people, one of which was a two-year-old child. Workers in a neighboring dental office heard the crash and rendered aid to the injured child and adults while waiting for emergency aid to arrive. All three people were taken by ambulance to local hospitals. The vehicle responsible for the crash initially escaped the scene but crashed a couple of blocks from the initial accident site. Both the driver and passenger of that vehicle were also treated for crash-related injuries.

Causes of Rollover Crashes

Rollover accidents are among the most dangerous types of motor vehicle accidents, often cited as the second-deadliest form of crashes behind head-on collisions. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration estimates in a report that about a fifth of all motor vehicle fatalities are caused by rollover crashes. Many rollover injuries result from vehicle occupants failing to wear seat belts. A large share of rollovers are caused by a driver with an elevated blood alcohol level or under other forms of intoxication. Rollover accidents often involve taller, top-heavy vehicles, which are easier to tip over than smaller or lower-riding vehicles.

Rollover collisions frequently involve the rolled vehicle being struck from the side, often at intersections when a driver either turns into an oncoming vehicle or a speeding vehicle strikes a turning vehicle. Rollovers can also stem from so-called “trips” in the road, which are variations in the road surface caused by potholes or debris that cause a vehicle’s tires to lose contact with the road and, in that way, cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Victims of rollover accidents caused by negligent, distracted or drunk drivers may have a right to file a personal injury lawsuit against the reckless driver responsible for their injuries and should speak with a knowledgeable Chicago car crash lawyer as soon as possible about their claim.
